This was exemplified by the collaboration between USA Skateboarding and the US Performance Center to certify the skatepark. The USA Skateboarding team participated in the event, organizing a meet and greet and session during the event. SLS SUPER CROWN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

SLS SUPER CROWN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

📸: @sls , @yobaade

Paige Heyn came out swinging, securing another podium in Brazil at the Street League Skateboarding Tour Super Crown. Heyn was able to put down a switch 50-50 and a switch front board down the four-block set rail . However, her 3rd place finish did not come easy, as she fell during her first attempt in the line section of the event. Undeterred, Heyn completed a “safety” line on her second attempt, earning a score of 5.1. This placed her in 6th position heading into the single trick attempts.

During the single trick attempts, Paige landed 4 out of 5 of her best trick attempts, with 3 of them in switch stance. This comeback once again showcases how consistent and competitive Paige Heyn is on the skateboarding scene.

LAURIDSEN SKATEPARK CERTIFICATION CEREMONY

LAURIDSEN SKATEPARK CERTIFICATION CEREMONY

Des Moines, Iowa - On Sunday, October 29, 2023, USA Skateboarding and Catch DSM celebrate in the success of the Certification and Plaque Unveiling. The event, held at Lauridsen Skatepark in Des Moines, was a testament to the strong bonds formed and the enthusiasm surrounding skateboarding in the city.

The day opened with the unveiling of the Certification Plaque, setting the tone for the occasion. Speakers, including Angela Connolly, Polk County Board of Supervisors; Trina Flack, Catch Des Moines; and Johnny Schillereff, President and CEO of USA Skateboarding, shared their insights and perspectives, underscoring the significance of this event.

"We are super excited to be a part of the Des Moines Community and be involved with the skate park. I believe this is one of the greatest skate parks on the planet and it is also one of the greatest skateboarding communities. I've been happy to be involved with this community, and I think it's absolutely incredible how the skateboarding community and the city have come together to create a safe and beautiful place for kids to skate, for families to come and USA skateboarding to certify this park." said CEO of USA Skateboarding, Johnny Schillereff.

Despite challenging weather conditions, with temperatures hovering in the 30s and an absence of sunshine, the local skaters of Des Moines demonstrated unwavering dedication by turning out in full force. This display of commitment underscored the remarkable cohesion and organization of the Des Moines skate scene.

National Team riders, Liam Pace  and Grace Marhoefer, were actively engaged with young participants, distributed products, and conducted autograph signings, fostering a sense of connection with the community.

"Once you get off the plane, you can actually skateboard everywhere in the city, which is really exciting. This park was really a dream of so many years ago. Someone approached a couple of elected officials, like myself and said "look, we got skateboarders and we've got a lot of kids in our community and they really want a park" we have little dinky ones in our community but nothing like we can imagine here today. " said Polk County Supervisor, Angela Connolly.

This memorable event symbolizes the continued growth and strength of the skateboarding community in Des Moines and the invaluable partnership between USA Skateboarding and its local supporters. As we look to the future, the certification plaque proudly displayed serves as a beacon of unity and commitment to the sport of skateboarding in Des Moines.

"It was a missing gap in the community. We opened up the state park and it really changed the vibe a lot, within the downtown footprint it brought a unique expression of art. Every day we get another call from someone that's excited to express themselves in some other way artistically and through skateboarding." said Deputy Director Polk County Iowa, Kam Rankin.

Lauridsen Skatepark becoming a USA Skateboarding Certified Park

Lauridsen Skatepark becoming a USA Skateboarding Certified Park

Des Moines, IA (October 25, 2023) – Adding to its list of standout designations, the country’s largest skatepark will soon be among a handful of parks officially vetted to host major, global skateboarding events and competitions. Join USA Skateboarding and central Iowa leaders to formally designate Lauridsen Skatepark for passing an inspection and certification process.

“USA Skateboarding's unity with the Des Moines skateboarding community is in perfect alignment with our goal of creating a gateway to safe and positive spaces in the world of skateboarding throughout the nation. The Lauridsen skatepark certification anchors our shared long-term mission to work with the city of Des Moines to bring world-class skateboarding events and stoke to Iowa. Des Moines created one of the world's greatest and most recognized skateparks and is the anchor for skateboarding in the Midwest. We are honored to play a part in this incredible example of the community coming together and making their dream a reality," said CEO of USA Skateboarding, Johnny Schillereff.

“As the sport of skateboarding grows and evolves, Polk County is committed to ensuring Lauridsen Skatepark keeps pace with that evolution,” said Angela Connolly, Polk County Supervisor. “This certification will be a literal and figurative sign we are ready to host skaters of all skill levels – from beginners to world-class athletes.”

Background: USA Skateboarding’s Skatepark Performance and Accreditation Rating for Certification (SPARC) program is centered on a 75-point checklist. This checklist evaluates how a park fosters safety, inclusivity, and a sense of community. It also examines technical and safety requirements necessary for professional and amateur competitions.

USA Skateboarding and USPA offer Flexible Education to Junior Skateboarders Worldwide

Elkins, N.H. – US Performance Academy (USPA) is thrilled to announce that it has become the Official Online Academic Partner of USA Skateboarding. USA Skateboarding, based in California, is a World Skate recognized Member Federation for skateboarding. This collaboration establishes an academic and athletic pathway to enable junior skateboarders to train, travel and compete while receiving a high-quality online education.

"USPA's values and flexible, high-level education align perfectly with the needs of our athletes who are traveling globally to compete," said Johnny Schillereff, CEO of USA Skateboarding. "Our team riders are constantly on the move, and with USPA' s ability to adapt to their schedules, they can continue to grow their education with flexible schedules and lead successful lives both on and off their skateboards."

In addition to online seminars, USPA will attend select USA Skateboard Events events to provide in-person expert guidance from Family Advisors and support skateboarders on their journey to college and elite competition.

“Similar to our partnership with USASA in the snowboard and freeski world, skateboarding is the kind of progressive, boundary-stretching sport that features student-athletes who are ready to take it to the next level, athletically and academically ,” said Pete Smith, Founder and President of USPA. “With USA Skateboarding’s leadership, we at USPA can  provide driven athletes the kind of academic flexibility that results in a distinct advantage over the competition.”

Gavin Bottger: "I don't know how I feel right now"

Gavin Bottger of the USA made his third and final run to secure the men's park world champion title. It was a redemption story for Gavin after a broken wrist during the previous World Championships in Sharjah in February. Gavin hinted at his potential during his second run, where he scored an impressive 83.06, placing him in fourth. Capping off his last run, he landed the 'round-the-world' (body varial to fakie) right as the buzzer sounded. Bottger's third run earned him first place with a score of 94.03.

    View this post on Instagram

A post shared by World Skate Official (@worldskateofficial)

Even though he stood on the podium with the American national anthem playing and a gold medal hanging around his neck, Bottger couldn't believe what had just happened. He admitted to feeling a sense of shock even after his victory. "I don't even know how to describe what I'm feeling right now," the teenager told Olympics.com. "It hasn't sunk in yet. I'm not sure about my emotions at the moment." Bottger was so focused that he said he "blacked out" before his final run. Reflecting on the injury from february, "It was a lot of resting and just sitting around a lot. But once I was fully healed, I started skateboarding as much as I could, trying to regain my confidence on the board. It actually made me love skateboarding even more. It was the first time I ever broke a bone." The USA Skateboarding team showcased the dominance of American riders on the men's podium with Gavin Bottger in first, Tate Carew in 3rd, and Jagger Eaton landing fourth and Minna Stess at 3rd in the Women's division.

     📸 @brycekanights

Tate Carew secured the third spot on the podium with a score of 86.37. Carew has been steadily improving in the park ranks and now has his sights on making podium finishes regularly as he continues his journey toward Paris 2024. Tate's run had high-difficulty tricks performed flawlessly and ended with an alley-oop tail grab 540, amassing a score of 91.34. "It's incredible because in the last round of qualifying, I was barely in the top 20. And now, this time, I've been pre-qualified, and I'm competing against some of the best athletes in the world. Being on the podium is an unbelievable feeling, and I'll be working hard to achieve it again during the rest of the qualifying year." - Tate Carew

     📸 @brycekanights

Seventeen-year-old Minna Stess from Petaluma, California, secured third place, making her the highest-ranked American woman in park skateboarding. Stess, who made the finals at the last World Championships in Sharjah, was at a loss for words when describing what her bronze medal meant. "I honestly don’t even know what to feel. I just feel like I’m in a crazy dream. It’s insane but I’m so stoked," she shared with Olympics.com after the event. “I’ve been working really hard and I honestly didn’t think - not that I wasn’t capable - but I never usually try to think what place I’m going to get. “ I wanted to put in my back blunt and kick flip indy in the same run because in the qualifiers previously I’d been doing an axel stall and then an indy air. I was like, if I put those two in I’m going to be so hyped because that’s my best run I can put down. That’s what I wanted to do and it worked out great!”

    Final Scores Men's:

    1. Gavin Bottger (USA) - 94.03
    2. Luigi Cini (BRA) - 91.90
    3. Tate Carew (USA) - 91.34

USA Skateboarding Coaches Celebrate 1 Year

We would like to thank our high performance coaches Josh "Peacock" Henderson (Park) and John Nicholson (Street) for all of the work they do behind the scenes. Throughout the past year, they have helped our organization tremendously by supporting our athletes and continuously pushing USA Skateboarding to the next level. Both of our coaches have put in countless hours training and traveling with the team. Thank you, Peacock and John.

USA Skateboarding Announces Daniel Gale as General Manager

USA Skateboarding Announces Daniel Gale as General Manager

USA Skateboarding (USAS) and its new CEO, Johnny Schillereff, have named industry expert Daniel Gale as its new General Manager. Johnny brought Gale in as his first order of business, saying this about Gale; “Daniel has vast experience within the non-profit and high-performance arena. That, combined with his deep roots as a skateboarder, and his extensive background with the United States Olympic Paralympic Committee (USOPC), adaptive programming, and community, make him instrumental in our turnaround; and a perfect fit with the new USAS’s DNA.”

Schillereff and Gale have worked on many adaptive initiatives through Adaptive Action Sports and Element Skateboards, which Johnny founded. “Johnny has an incredible vision and passion for USA Skateboarding and the skateboard community, a deep-rooted drive to help people, and an excellent track record in success with his countless business ventures. I’m excited and honored to work with him on this project.” - said Gale.

Gale, Executive Director at AAS (Adaptive Action Sports), a sports organizer at Dew Tour and X Games since 2015. Daniel co-founded AAS, a nonprofit organization, in 2005 with his wife, Amy Purdy, and was instrumental in bringing snowboarding into the Paralympics. Through AAS, Gale has gained extensive experience in athlete development, high-performance training, and pipeline programming with USOPC compliance and non-profit operations.

Daniel aims to similarly help USA Skateboarding lead the charge towards the Paris 2024 and LA 2028 games by putting the athletes first and making adaptive programming part of the DNA of USA Skateboarding. “Our goal is to one put the athletes first, make them our priority above all. The second is to create a pipeline to the Games that go from recreational levels to an open class and to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Third, we’ll create the strongest membership program to date. Over 8 million people skateboard in the US. We want them all to feel welcome. Fourth, and most importantly, we envision the USA Nationals Team being “one team” - which includes our adaptive skaters. If you’re on the team, you’re on the team.”

Gale grew up in the Washington, DC, region with deep roots in skateboarding. He is currently based in Silverthorne, Colorado, near the USOPC headquarters, where skateboarding has been a crucial part of his high-performance training program for snowboarders.

Daniel hit the ground running in his new role, and with an outstanding new executive team at USA Skateboarding, he is thrilled to help take the organization to the next level.

USA Skateboarding, the National Governing Body for Skateboarding in the United States, today announced it has named Eric Koston, one of the sport’s most prolific and celebrated skateboarders, as its new Team Captain.

Koston was hand-selected to lead Team USA to victory in the 2024 Games in Paris by industry maverick and newly appointed USA Skateboarding CEO Johnny Schillereff.

“USA Skateboarding, our athletes, and our country deserve a leader of tremendous skill, integrity, and accomplishment. There is no one better suited to lead our team to victory both on and off their skateboards. I’m grateful to have Eric by my side for this incredible journey.”

Koston is eager to apply his unparalleled ability, knowledge, and experience to our National Team so they may reach their full potential as we approach Paris 2024.

ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, Sept 8th, 2022 - USA Skateboarding announced today that Johnny Schillereff has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer and President. After searching for a candidate with the experience and attributes to elevate USA Skateboarding successfully, USA SKB unanimously agreed that Johnny was the best fit.

“Johnny Schillereff is a skateboarder. His dedication and strong relationships within skateboarding enable him to solve complex issues and build collaborative partnerships,” said Don Bostick, USA Skateboarding Board chair. “We appreciate his lifetime of achievements and contributions to the skateboarding community. We are confident he will continue his successful track record as CEO and President of USA Skateboarding.”

Most recognized as Founder and President of Element Skateboards, Johnny Schillereff sold the company in the early 2000’s and remained at the brand’s helm for over two decades. He has upstarted and supported non-profit organizations, skate camps, and competitions around the world. Along with creating Element, Johnny has advised action sports companies, assembled skateboard teams, and employed and nurtured thousands of skateboarders and enthusiasts worldwide. “I am thrilled to be the CEO of USA Skateboarding and consider this role the most honorable and impactful position I’ve held to date,” said Schillereff. “I am grateful to everyone who contributed to skateboarding being in the Olympics. I am committed to working in the best interest of USA Skateboarding. My priority is to reach the goals while protecting their rights and overall well-being. I embrace the challenge and look forward to collaborating with our athletes and the skateboard community.”

Johnny began skateboarding at the age of four. Inspired by the positive impact skateboarding made on him in his youth, he began submerging himself into his art, entrepreneurism, and the skateboarding community. After graduating from the Art Institute, his career in skateboarding began.

“Johnny Schillereff brings decades of experience to USA Skateboarding, grounded in a love of the culture. He has the capacity to improve the structure of the organization and the empathy needed to create a stable, transparent, safe environment for the athletes. He is also eager to develop new partnerships that improve skateboarding's growth among new and diverse audiences. Finally, he recognizes that the position requires him to serve and converse with local, national, and global skateboarding communities and make decisions that advocate for the health and well-being of all skateboarders. - We look forward to supporting Johnny as he delivers his vision to strengthen and transform USA Skateboarding.” - Dr. Neftalie Williams, USA Skateboarding Nomination and Governance Committee, Chair of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Schillereff will conclude his daily obligations to The Heart Supply and will commence this position effective immediately. We are thankful for his continued dedication to skateboarding and look forward to his passion.

USA Skateboarding Partners with Tech Deck

Spin Master’s Tech Deck brand is now an official sponsor of USA Skateboarding.

The Tech Deck fingerboarding brand creates working replicas of skateboards that skateboarding enthusiasts "ride" by mastering tricks and maneuvers with their fingers. Well-known in the skateboarding community, the brand is now joining forces with USA Skateboarding as the sport debuted at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games this summer.

The sponsorship kicked off with the 2021 USA Skateboarding National Championships for both skateboarding and fingerboarding, presented by Toyota.

Spin Master also launched official USA Skateboarding Tech Deck fingerboards. Ten thousand exclusive boards across two designs were distributed to the USA Skateboarding Team and given away in Tokyo.

“Tech Deck and USA Skateboarding share a passion for and commitment to growing and celebrating the sport and culture of skateboarding,” said Chris Beardall, Spin Master’s President of Toys and Chief Commercial Officer. “We are thrilled to be starting our sponsorship during such an exciting year as skateboarding just debuted at the Olympics and reaches a whole new generation of fans.”

Tech Deck’s commitment to skateboarding culture and their natural fit into our existing initiatives made it clear that we had a great opportunity – we’re incredibly excited to have them as a partner in this historic year for skateboarding.”
